Cola Wars Case Analysis - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1141 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2017/09/12 Category Advertising Essay Did you like this example? Cola Wars Case Analysis 1. The main way in which my case notes would be different for Cola Wars if I were to have a second try at writing them would be to include a breakdown of how they are able to apply to Porterââ¬â¢s five forces. For example, it is evident after reading this case that the soft drink industry is an extremely profitable one (especially for Coke and Pepsi). The reasons for this were discussed in class, and I will quickly explain each: There are great barriers to entry when trying to dive into the soft drink industry, and because of this companies who have a competitive advantage will make it rather difficult for a new competitor to enter the market. Brand Equity is the first of many barriers, because large companies like Coke and Pepsi have become American icons. With that brings a certain culture that people are not willing to just let go by the wayside in exchange for a new brand (ie. The Pepsi Generation). Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Cola Wars Case Analysis" essay for you Create order Secondly, shelf space is a huge concern for this new competition, because big companies create all sorts of new variations and varieties of their products to suck up as much shelf space as they can for maximum exposure of their product. Another problem with trying to enter this market is that bottlers for the concentrate producers have signed exclusive contracts in most cases so that they can only bottle, package, and distribute a specific companies beverages. Lastly, and perhaps the hardest barrier to overcome is that of advertising. Coke and Pepsi are so well known, that even if a new concentrate producer starts up a top of the line factory and is producing great soda it could be all for nothing. The amount of advertising dollars that would have to be spent in order to obtain some of the market share from these goliath companies is so enormous that it is nearly impossible. On top of that, if the marketing schemes do not work for one reason or another those costs spent to promote are sunken costs. Substitutes are another concern, but at the end of the day carbonated soft drinks are consumer more than any other drink by Americans. Substitutes for these soft drinks are not always convenient, and producers and bottlers have made it so their products are in fact an impulse buy a majority of the time. As previously mentioned, Coke and Pepsi are not just about buying a beverage, but more so about buying a mentality and way to live. Both suppliers and buyers also hold power within this industry. Suppliers have very low ingredient and start up costs, but they do in fact have something that is unmatchable that makes them very wealthy: their secret recipe for their syrup. Buyers on the other hand (bottlers) deal with high switching costs, franchise agreements that have been previously negotiated, among other things. However concentrate producers do in fact offer significant benefits for them. Lastly rivalry is Porterââ¬â¢s final force, and it is important when it comes to Coke and Pepsi for many reasons. Because they are able to understand and know how each other works, they are less likely to want to start a price war in order to destroy one another. However, since Pepsi did enter the market later than Coke, they have been fighting to catch up and gain an advantage in market share for a long time. This is the reason as to why they have been so aggressive throughout their history, with move like doubling the amount of product received and keeping the price stable, as well as things like the Pepsi challenge, and the Pepsi refresh product. 2. I feel that what I have learned from this case analysis that I can in fact apply some of the key points (especially Porterââ¬â¢s forces) to my actual life. In the near future I would like myself entering the beer and wine industry with an emphasis in sales and distribution. The knowledge that I have gained through reading this case will greatly benefit me due to the fact that I have a decent understanding as to how bottling and distribution works alongside Concentrate producers (in my case actual brewers). Eventually I would like to become a brewer in my own micro brewery up in the northwest, and because I have been able to be exposed to some of the barriers to entry in a similar field, I feel that I will be able to plan accordingly and hopefully overcome some of these. I know that it is a fierce industry, but at the same time like the soft drink world it can be very profitable as well. Hopefully I will be able to fully apply Porterââ¬â¢s five forces successfully in the long run to produce a strong business model which will in the end transmit into a successful venture. 3. Something that I have learned from the class discussion as well s reading the case is that, Porter presents a framework that not only analyzes potential markets, but is able to give a strong representation as to if they will be attractive business ventures. Being able to correlate his framework alongside other popular business frameworks such as the SWOT analysis seem to be a good way to interpret an industry that one may be looking to enter into. They are able to breakdown piece by piece why some companies are so successful, and why some competitors fall out of contention in a rigorous market. There is much to learn from Porter and the Cola Wars case, but it is evident that competitive rivalry is what drives an industry. As well as being able to create a competitive advantage one way or another is the way to success in business. 4. I have been able to learn a lot from this reflective case analysis, due to the fact that it has helped me to breakdown the competition between two large firms and analyze their competitive business strategies. It has given me the ability to think critically as to why Coke and Pepsi have been so successful, as well as how they are both able to stay in business in the long run without having destroyed one another. This reflective case analysis has also opened my eyes to Porterââ¬â¢s framework which has in turn made me understand how real life organizations not only control market share, but also use their innovative tactics to best present themselves to the consumer. This case analysis has also presented me with the opportunity to identify with upper level management decisions, and discuss them with my peers in class. I feel like I have been able to dive right into the board room and actually take a firsthand look as to how they are able to analyze critically and make decisions.

Heathcliff - A Character Defined By His Past, in Wuthering...
Wuthering Heights is a novel whose main character is said to have a double significance. He is said to be both the dispossessed and the dispossessor, victim of class hatred and arch ââ¬â exploiter, he simultaneously occupies the roles of working class outsider and brutal capitalist. Heathcliff has all these characteristics because of his experiences. He is a character moulded by his past. Heathcliff is a character defined by his sympathetic past. Instead she discarded their relationship and decided to marry Edgar Linton, a wealthy man. Catherine discarded her relationship with Heathcliff, for one main reason and that was because he was not a wealthy man. It was obvious that Catherine married Edgar so she could be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood and if she married Heathcliff it would degrade her and they would both end up as beggars . This a good example of how Heathcliff was a victim of class hatred. His impulsive actions makes his character, not only revengeful, but also demonic. His goal in life was to take revenge on those who have victimized him. Heathcliff is a victim of class hatred but he also manipulates situations to his advantage and becomes an arch - exploiter. For example, after the death of his wife, Hindley went insane. Heathcliff used this opportunity to take revenge and took Wuthering Heights away from Hindley. He then went further and married Edgarââ¬â¢s sister, not for love or monetary gain but to get back at Edgar for marrying Catherine, and treated Edgarââ¬â¢s sister terribly. Heathcliffââ¬â¢s anger intensified and he was bent on destroying not only his enemies but also their families. The furious pushing of buttons was music to my ears. My sister and I sat cuddling on the couch, our breath becoming one. My father was looking at the T.V. screen trying to not to blink. While my mother, at the edge of her seat, leaned over her pregnant belly. The ominous Japanese music hinted of danger. Most nights of my childhood were like this. After my father would get home from work, I would run over to the Nintendo 64 and press the power button. The Legend of Zelda was the only game we ever played. The light flashed and the screen illuminated the dark room. We sat down as a family, beating this game together. The character on the screen would swing his sword and defeat the evil creatures haunting our world. Click. I turned on the Nintendo 64, now covered in dust. There stood Shigeru Miyamotoââ¬â¢s famous character in the green tunic. The graphics were still great quality; an amazing feat for the industry had changed so much within the ten years since it had been released. An hour or so into it, I came across a scenario in which I was to follow a monkey into a forest maze. I was pulled back into the night where my father first played that same scenario. It had been an awful day. I was crying and my mother was frustrated at my childish emotion. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t be so bossy, Gillian.â⬠She looked at me from across the dinner table. It served as the glue in our family during the rough times. It remains to be the reminder that we can be together no matter what happens. Whether our character gets hurt, or when my mother is diagnosed with breast cancer. We have and will get through it together.

Community Health Drug
Question: Discuss about the Community Health for Drug. Answer: Introduction Conflict Organizational conflict is the identified state of discord that is caused by the perceived or actual opposition to the interests, values and needs between the colleagues who are working together. Many forms of conflicts exist in organizations and this is due to the inevitable clash between the affected groups and individuals and the formal authority (Clegg, Mikkelsen Sewell, 2015). Some of the common organizational conflicts occur regarding the work procedure, division of revenues and the division of work. Jurisdictional disagreements can occur between the management and the individuals and the unions and the departments. Conflicts can also arise from the personality, jealousies, rivalries and struggles for power. In the health arena, conflict is a growing concern and should be recognized for the physicians during their training. Workplace violence is increasing and most of them remain unresolved or unsatisfactory that affects the staff morale (Graham Folkes, 2014). However, disagr eement acts as a precursor to conflict and expression of different opinions does not lead to a resolution. The underlying factors can result in the precipitation of the transition from the disagreement to the conflict. This essay will discuss the conflict in The Nomads Clinic and will discuss the benefits and challenges of the organizational conflict occurring in the clinic with their effective management. Organizational conflicts in the clinics and healthcare organizations might exist between the various physicians, between the healthcare team or the staff and the patients family or the patient and between the staff and the physicians. The range of the controversies can fall between major controversies to minor disagreements that can lead to violence or litigation (Rinderle, 2013). These conflicts can exert an adverse effect on the patient care, morale and productivity and can result in impeded efficiency, limited staff contributions and higher employee turnover. Healthcare organizations are the complex systems requiring effective cooperation and teamwork for effective functioning. Conflict mismanagement results in a negative impact on patient outcomes and disruption of care. Competing priorities in the healthcare organizational structures often lead to the professional and personal conflicts between the providers of healthcare. Personalities and strong philosophies collide under vari ous pressurized situations like critical decisions, task deadlines and different understanding levels that affect the future decisions. The approach for understanding the conflicts among the various caregivers requires the understanding the environment in which the provision of care was done (Kelly et al., 2014). Good communication is essential before and after the care delivery and therefore, it is essential for the clinics and healthcare organizations to anticipate that conflict and communication skills are the primary predictors to determine the ability of an organization to progress. Although conflict is generally regarded as a negative occurrence, in some ways it can be actually beneficial. Therefore, instead of resolving the conflict, the clinics and healthcare organizations might look for ways to improve their business through the conflicts. Conflict serves to increase the employee engagement and therefore, during the presentation of a new idea, the employees participate actively without the fear of conflict. Without this, bad ideas could have been implemented and that could have affected the organization (Pettigrew, 2014). Conflicts can help in getting the attention of the employees. In case of debates and discussions, conflicts make the employees participate actively without getting immune and express their ideas and this increases the overall quality of the discussions (Vaara et al., 2012). Conflicts help to improve the relationships between the employees as when two employees engage in a conflict in a professional manner, they move on to work together for a longer duration. Therefore, the organizations that promote ethical conflict tend to develop stronger relationships with their colleagues. Conflict are also known to improve the morale of the employee as if they are allowed to get engaged in conflicts by sharing their ideas freely, it makes them feel that they are valued. The ideas get improved as a result of conflict as the employees who are not scared of conflicts and can speak freely can contribute to larger proportions towards the development of the organization. Apart from the benefits of the organizational conflicts, there are several challenges of organizational conflicts in healthcare that requires attention. Conflicts divert the prime objective of the organization as a group of employees struggles with a conflict. Conflicts create groups due to the lack of resources, position and freedom. Due to the attainment of the result of the conflict, decisions get delayed in the organization. The parties start focusing on the differences of interests and opinions that results in the development of perceived conflict and causes deadlocks for conflict resolution and making decisions. The unaggressive members who do not aggressively participate in a conflict or negotiation are made sidelines and this cause to lower their morale for being made the non-participatory members (Harper, 2015). Due to conflicts, the employees avoid listening and try to put forward their individual problems which further aggravate the situation. As the conflict develops thro ugh various stages, it becomes a win or lose situation for the employees that makes the exploration of the available alternatives more difficult. Conflicts are inevitable in healthcare organizations and clinics and the organizations can choose to recognize the conflict as either inherently positive or negative. However, management of conflict is essential and it is a dynamic process that involves the recognition of its various stages with the application of the appropriate intervention (Slaikeu Hasson, 2012). A conflict management procedure must be developed and implemented by The Nomads Clinic so that the quality of care and patient safety does not get affected. It should include recognition of the conflict as the indicator of early detection of the approaching problems. Proactive responses should be promoted for the conflicts and problems. A culture of problem solving, open communication and mutual respect should be encouraged during the intervention or inquiry that is relating to the conflict and appropriate means should be developed for working towards the resolution of the conflict. The stakeholders of the clinic can be included for development of a conflict management procedure by taking their inputs and educating them in the management of conflict in healthcare and making them accountable for the application of the procedure. Change Organizational change is the process by which a healthcare organization changes its organizational structure, technologies, operational methods, strategies and structure for affecting the change in the organization. These changes can occur for distinct time period or can be continuous. The clinicians are on the verge of change and this is often recognized as a great challenge and workplace issue for moving the organization forward. Shifts in the environmental factors can cause the healthcare organizations for changing their strategies (Benn, Dunphy Griffiths, 2014). Strategic changes have often been found to fail as the individuals do not adopt the necessary behaviors for successful implementation of the new strategies. Successful implementation of the strategic changes requires the individuals to change their behaviors and the leaders can increase the change results by developing general norms like mistake tolerance and teamwork. This causes to increase the readiness for change amo ng the employees (Cameron Green, 2015). This essay will discuss three points that are required for the implementation of a significant change in The Nomads Clinic. Leadership can play a pivotal role in a healthcare organization to bring about change. Various leadership theories can be followed to implement the changes and the operational strategies that can improve the financial outcomes and the quality of care. Administrative leadership can be an effective strategy for implementing change in a healthcare organization. It is the individual actions of the managers for coordination and planning of the organizational activities like the bureaucratic functions for mobilizing the employees. Administrative leaders establish the change to sustain and protect the essential operational functions for meeting the needs of the organization (Jones-Roberts, 2008). There are two fundamental aspects of administrative leadership that includes strategic leadership and operational leadership. Strategic leadership makes the leaders to guide the healthcare organization with a futuristic outlook and they ensure that the outcomes and goals are attained by the employe es by inspiring them with a shared vision and clarifying the purpose. Operational leadership is carried out by the leaders by the activities of supporting and hiring staff members, maintaining a positive climate in the workplace and overseeing the budgets (Van Wart, 2013). The manager of The Nomads Clinic may follow administrative leadership prior to the implementation process as it is beneficial in orchestrating tasks. Prior to the implementation of the change, the manager can share his plans with his employees and can develop a futuristic vision within them. This will make the employees certain about the goals and outcomes of the change and will help to maintain a positive environment in the clinic without any confusion and paranoia. Adaptive leadership can be another effective strategy for implementing change in a healthcare organization as it is a practical framework of leadership that helps the leaders to thrive and adapt in the challenging environments. Collectively and individually, it helps in bringing about a meaningful and gradual process of change. It is an interactive, emergent and dynamic process of leadership that aids in producing adaptive outcomes in the social system by a collaborative change movement. Adaptive leadership is a form of diagnosis of the essentials from the expendables for bringing a challenge to the existing condition. Adaptive leadership is applied by the leaders when the progress and innovations are not attained with the present approaches as a means of change implementation (Styhre, 2002). It innovates, interrupts and diagnoses the approaches for creating the capabilities that are most suitable for the organizational aspirations. It is the real time purposeful evolution. Adaptive leadership studies the multiple perspectives that can be attributed to the change and identifies the gap between the current approaches and the desired state. It works by changing the attitudes and behaviors of the employees along with the provision of new learning (Obolensky, 2014). The leaders adopt the adaptive leadership for employing the relevant tools and processes for building the adaptive capacities of the healthcare organizations. The manager of The Nomads Clinic should adopt the adaptive leadership during the implementation process as it provides with the relevant tools and processes that are required for bringing about the change in the organization by replacing the previous approaches. Enabling leadership can be another effective strategy for implementing change in a healthcare organization by making the entire team a leader. It is the process of discovering ways for actively engaging the employees to work on the issues that will affect them and the organization. The leaders maneuver and foster the conditions that allow emergence and catalyzes adaptive leadership (Uhl-Bien, Marion McKelvey, 2007). With this leadership style, the employees get motivated and committed for bringing about the change in the organization by attaining their goals. The leaders test their motivation and improve their awareness of the impact of their behavior and personality on others. The enable leaders have the humility and confidence that they are always in the process of learning. During the process of the implementation of change, the leader steps back and the team member who has the better knowledge of the implementation process takes over the leadership charges. The leader so appoint ed gains autocratic controls in case of a crisis or emergency and has the authority to empower someone else as the leader who has better knowledge during the period of crisis. This is possible only because the leaders possess the respect and trust of his employees and team members and provides value to every member of the team (Hoegl Muethel, 2016). The leaders take on decisions concerning everyone in the team. The manager of The Nomads Clinic might apply enabling leadership throughout the implementation process as it will involve everyone in the process and the resistance to change will be either less or nil. Considering the input from every employee will be a bit time consuming but it will help to avoid the mishap of choosing the wrong plan. Since The Nomads Clinic is an organization for the homeless patients, therefore changes have to be made considering the various situations under which the volunteer health professionals with these people. Since it is not similar to treating the regular patients, therefore it can be proposed that enabling leadership will be the best possible way to implement the change considering the inputs of the volunteers and making them a part of the implementation process. Unfortunate Irony Hope Ariel Dorfman Essay Example
Unfortunate Irony Hope Ariel Dorfman Essay Essay 2 Unfortunate Irony In the poem ââ¬Å"Hopeâ⬠by Ariel Dorfman the use of irony is what really sets and delivers the mood of this heart wrenching story. The author uses a very straight forward approach in this poem because they are essentially just telling the story, adding loose rhythm and rhyme structure. The best way for the author to get the point of this tragedy across is with subtle but profound irony. The mother and father finding ââ¬Å"joyâ⬠in this horrible event is the best example of irony. Irony in my opinion is what can really drive home the feeling of the author or lyricist and is a way to completely change the direction of feeling. In Hope, when the author says ââ¬Å"we couldnââ¬â¢t find out anything else about himâ⬠, itââ¬â¢s as if the authorââ¬â¢s implying they donââ¬â¢t know where they are taking him, what they are doing with him, or if theyââ¬â¢ll ever see him again. The irony in this statement is that we assume that until completing the poem and rereading it, that maybe the parents will not get to see the child grow up. Because they already know and somewhat accept what is going to happen to the child. The author is completely aware of what kind of situation this has brought about. You see this when Ariel says, ââ¬Å"somebody tell me frankly what times are these, what kind of word, what countryâ⬠. Ariel knows, these are terrible timesâ⬠¦ This type of irony really reminds of classic and contemporary country lyrics. The one that comes to mind immediately is ââ¬Å"He Stopped Loving Her Todayâ⬠by George Jones. The story he tells is of a man thatââ¬â¢s hopelessly in love with a former lover that no longer loves him. The opening line really sets the tone with Jonesââ¬â¢ haunting twang, ââ¬Å"He said Iââ¬â¢ll love you till I die, She said youââ¬â¢ll forget in time. â⬠But as the story explains, he doesnââ¬â¢t. Jonesââ¬â¢ lyrics are extremely painful when describing the setting of his home and how he has held on to items that are linked to her. He kept some letters by his bed, Dated 1962, He had underlined in red, Every single I love you. â⬠The verse right before the chorus and the chorus itself are what show the very unfortunate irony. The person telling the story explains how he went to see his friend and heââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"All dressed up to go away, First time Iââ¬â¢d seen him smile in yearsâ⬠, the man had finally found the end to his pain on his way to his own funeral. The chorus, ââ¬Å"He stopped loving her today, They placed a wreath upon his door, And soon theyââ¬â¢ll carry him away, He stopped loving her today. To find happiness in such a way just shows how bad the pain actually is, just like in ââ¬Å"Hopeâ⬠. To find any amount in joy due to horrific pain and sadness, is very sad and it is understandable how the family of the child in ââ¬Å"Hopeâ⬠and the friends of the man in ââ¬Å"He Stopped Loving Her Todayâ⬠can find joy in these extremely sad and difficult situations The ultimate display of irony in ââ¬Å"Hopeâ⬠is after Ariel acknowledges the circumstances and situation their family has found themselves in and how to deal with it. They say they recognized his voice, his screams, they sayâ⬠, this is very powerful and very disturbing. This leads to the ultimate question of this piece, ââ¬Å"What Iââ¬â¢m asking is how can it be that a fatherââ¬â¢s joy, a motherââ¬â¢s joy, is knowin g that they, that they are still torturing their son? â⬠And the joy and comfort they find by knowing that if he is being tortured that is still alive and that still leaves a window for hope. Which means that he was alive five months later and our greatest hope will be to find out next year that theyââ¬â¢re still torturing him eight months later, and he mayâ⬠¦ mightâ⬠¦ could still be alive. â⬠That is unfortunate irony, finding joy in a loved one being tortured because at least there is still hope they will one day be reunited with their child. The trick, however, is that if you want to learn how to actually do it, you will need to make sure that you get the answers right first time.I've always wanted to be an average student like the rest of my class. I have been told that I don't always seem to comprehend things, or that I always procrastinate on school work. I am not going to lie and say that I do not always put in the effort to finish school work.It is very frustrating to me that this happens, but when I see that there are very few people who actually take the extra homework assignments that they are given, then I start to believe them. It really makes me mad, when I find out that the amount of extra work that is needed to do is simply too much for most people. It seems that a lot of people would rather just use their time at school and get the job done.Lastly, another problem that I see is that many students are afraid to talk about things that they want to know. They tend to shy away from having conversations with their teacher because they know that their opinion will never matter, but this is not true.Every day, students sit in study hall teachers and they need to ask questions. They need to express their opinion and be able to influence the way that the school operates, and if they do that, then the students can achieve more in school. It is up to you to make sure that you keep the good relationship with your teacher, because in order to achieve things at school, it is very important to have strong relations with the teachers. So make sure that you feel comfortable asking the questions that you need to ask.So, if you want to write a sample test or a sample essay, then make sure that you make sure that you have the answers right . With this, you will be one step closer to getting your college degree.
